Clubhouse Gallery is pleased to support the Rema Hort Mann Fund’s 30th Anniversary Gala & Art Auction with Such Sweet Sorrow (2026), a mixed-media work by Russell Craig. The Galleryis pleased to support the Fund’s milestone benefit with Russell Craig’s Such Sweet Sorrow (2026), featured at Phillips alongside works by Derrick Adams, Katherine Bernhardt, Marlene Dumas, Nicole Eisenman, Rashid Johnson, and Fred Tomaselli, among others. The auction runs October 19–28, culminating in the gala at Tribeca Rooftop in New York on Wednesday, October 28.
The gala will honor Fund co-founder and collector Susan Hort; philanthropists George Wells and Manfred Rantner; and artist Jacolby Satterwhite, inaugural recipient of the Fund’s Artists Living with Cancer Grant. The Fund’s Board Co-Chairs are Carole Server Frankel and Amy Globus, and its Executive Director is Elysia Borowy. The evening will also welcome new Board members, including artist Dana Schutz, a 2002 Emerging Artist Grant recipient.
At 24 × 36 inches, Such Sweet Sorrow is constructed from woven candy wrappers and boxes collected and repurposed by Craig, along with acrylic, canvas strips, screws, and heavy gel glue on wood panel. A concentrated food-slot form emerges from a richly layered field of brightly colored packaging. Drawing on traditions of prison craft, each woven patch represents an incarcerated person; together, the patches evoke the scale and human cost of mass incarceration. Other works in Craig’s door series are held in the permanent collections of Pérez Art Museum Miami and the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University.
Over three decades, the Fund’s Emerging Artist Fellowship alumni have included Sarah Sze, Sanford Biggers, David Altmejd, Mickalene Thomas, Rashaad Newsome, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, and Christina Quarles. The anniversary also launches the Fund’s new Artists Living with Cancer Grant. Clubhouse Gallery is pleased to join the artists and galleries supporting the Fund’s continued investment in artists and care.
