Russell Craig Acquisition by the Rose Art Museum

January 24, 2026

Russell Craig’s Prison Door painting, 0001 (2025) has been acquired into the permanent collection of the Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University. This acquisition was made possible through the Mortimer and Sara Hays Acquisition Fund, with additional support from Meredith and Tiffen McAlister and Lisa Bouchard and Peter Hollands.

Rooted in his lived experience, Craig’s practice transforms the materials and structures of incarceration into layered, labor-intensive compositions that hold memory, resilience, and humanity. Through processes of accumulation and reworking, 0001 reflects a broader dialogue around craft as a site of cultural narrative, resistance, and transformation. The work is part of a sold-out series honoring the Central Park 5 which was first exhibited by Clubhouse Gallery at the Armory Show 2025 in New York City.
